TUNISAN FOREST
Forest area in Tunisia cover around 1.2 million hectares, mainly comprising Aleppo pine trees in the Tunisian ridge (center) and Zen oaks in the north west of the country.
Forests play a key role in preserving the ecological balance: preserving biodiversity, protecting against erosion and desertification and conserving water and soil.
Forests offer various products: wood, aromatic and medicinal plants, ecological tourism. Indeed, forests provide an important income resource to local inhabitants, this phenomenon is particularity among Mediterranean countries.
